Broughton RFC - Wardie Field

Broughton 23-3 St Boswells

23rd February 2013

Those extremely hard-working folks who run Scottish Club Rugby are nothing if not generous.  For in addition to the trophies handed out to those clubs who win their respective league competitions (of which there are 22), there are also a plethora of shields, bowls and cups up for grabs.  Many of these are stratified, with only clubs existing at a certain level within the pyramid system eligible.

Onesuch is the East Regional Bowl, which appears to be open solely to those ten clubs which form the RBC East Region League Division Three, plus recently formed Bo’ness RFC who presently compete in one of the East Region Reserve Leagues.

The two clubs who had reached this afternoon’s final were Edinburgh-based Broughton and Borders club St Boswell’s.  The former had been drawn to enjoy home advantage, although the latter lot looked on the face of things to be favourites, having racked up 183 points in their three matches required to reach this final.

However, the match proved to be a fairly one-sided stroll for the hosts who won 23-3, with a try-count of three to zero.
